終わる世界とバースデイ – Thoughts

Why can’t everything end happily? ;_;

Well to no ones surprise, the story mainly revolves around the end of the world.

The story starts with a prediction by someone named “Cassandra” on a certain anonymous image board, the prediction being that the world will end at September 29th.

Of course no one would take something like that seriously. However later on the person named Cassandra began posting other “predictions” and one by one these predictions proved to be more or less accurate, soon enough it became a hot topic of whether or not the world will truly end just as Cassandra predicted.

Not really interested enough to go too much in details but to sum things up, the protagonist and the heroines began to make efforts in obstructing the predictions so that they come off the mark.

As you go along the common route, the story branches into heroine routes on the way. With every heroine end you get to see another form of world end. It’ll be long if we went through details so for time being…

Body parts fly

A virus that causes people to have an intense murder impulse shows up and spreads across the globe within a few days.

People die

The protagonist also gets infected

The world also enters an ice age because of magical ice that instantaneously freezes anything on contact

People and things freeze.
At least they got to happily freeze to death together I suppose.

But worry not, all of this has a proper explanation to it. It’s not some sort of magic… or well, in a sense it is. The world is actually a simulated reality, it resets at September 29th hence the “end of the world”. The world repeats every time the world “ends”, the date in the real world is 2022. If we ask what about the physical body, well apparently it’s possible for them to make it so that one second lasts near infinity in the simulated reality. Probably best not to ask how that works or the entire system in general.

The objective is to create an AI infinitely similar to Iri who died 10 years ago in 2012. There are 100 participants all with a form of regret in 2012 and the simulated reality is constructed based on their memories.

In the nutshell the ending told you to move on from the past events and not cling to it forever. touching scenes happened here and there. I would probably classify it as a bittersweet ending. Not exactly bitter since it’s happiness in its own way I suppose.

That wasn’t a very good summary but it’s the general gist of things. The story was pretty interesting but… the ending was a bit of a let down for me. It wasn’t really that much of a bad ending but I felt that it could’ve been done better. Why throw in a bittersweet ending when you could just go with a normally happy one after every other heroine basically ended up with a “happy death” end. Maybe it’s just my fondness for happy endings grumbling here but I just felt the ending was anti climatic as well as disappointing because there wasn’t, at long last, a proper happy end for the characters.

Well ending aside, the road up to the ending was at least fun. Though I did hold doubts on why the heck were they dealing with magical ice, random genocide viruses, natural disasters out of nowhere and the like, I didn’t quite expect for them to pull a simulated reality on me so that came as a pleasant surprise and sufficient explanation for the events.

If only that ending was a bit better…

There’s always room for some maids

With that done and over with, I have more or less nothing to play until the end of the month. I have atled hanging around but I’m not quite interested in playing it yet… if ever. For time being going through some doujin games and C82 material. There’s not many games of interest this C82 it seems. We’ll see if I decide to find something to kill time with or just wait till the end of the month.

Not a C82 game but pretty fun in any case
