貧は僕らの福の神 – Impressions

Finally released from SakuSaki, Serika route was pretty nice though a bit short but that can’t be helped, being a sub route and all. I really feel that story would have been better without the actual story… but anyway

In order to heal my broken heart before going into the main dish of the month, I decided to pick up this game. Though the system seems a little badly made when compared to the average game these days, the art is nice and story is pleasant. After SakuSaki I just want to sit back and enjoy a simple slice of life. And after this will be Tokyo Babel which is probably the game I’m looking forward to the most this month. As I enjoyed Evolimit (even though it was comedic how far high the powerlevels soared at the end) I’m hoping they don’t disappoint with Araragi starring as jesus. Though it’s all ages which feels a little strange since ero is more or less to be expected in most stories at this point. Well enough with rambling, onwards to the impressions.

In this story we follow the protagonist Daichi in his poor life with his younger sister which loves him. Yes, for the world Daichi lives in, it is one of the fundamental laws of the universe that the younger sister will be the one who will take the older brothers virginity!

Well throwing that stuff aside, Daichi starts off with more or less a harem state, with your usual lineup of childhood friend and ojou-sama type character, in addition with an not-so-average occult girl showing up and finally at the end the god of poverty transfers to his school as well declaring him as her fated person.

Right, you might as well add in the beautiful teacher as a part of Daichi’s harem as well.

… Though it’s a man.

Moving to commentary on the story, the gist of things is that the god of poverty, Yoshino transferred to the school. Because of her beauty and innocent personality she took the invitations of various men to go out on a date and so on. At some point it was decided to force the class to take her out on a group date. However mysteriously the result at every time is that all of the men who go after her come back suffering massive economic damage.

Essentially the point is that she can’t help but spread poverty to anyone who shows affection or the likes to her. The only person who is unaffected by this would be Daichi, as he has been suffering from a curse worse than what she has for his entire life. In addition because of his immunity, as long as other people are near Daichi they won’t receive effects of Yoshino. Following this, because of the influences of Yoshino’s “blessings” one after another the heroines wind up having to live with Daichi until they can manage to cancel the curse.

Most of the characters don’t stand out too much but… Yoshino herself is… quite bothering. Not only is it revealed that being a god and all, she’s likely well over 100 years old or at the very least a several decades old, she also retains the innocence of someone barely exposed to the world for her entire life. Yet despite that innocence, she’s seemingly naturally drawn into inadvertently manipulating the men who chase after her into losing all their savings. A fearsome woman indeed. She also revealed that for her entire life she has never worn any underwear which… well somehow doesn’t really come as a surprise but eh.

Well it’s probably best to not think too deeply into things and just enjoy the ride.

The story so far is generally as expected. Not a masterpiece but has some degree of freshness to it to enjoy the story without turning it into an expensive lullaby. A fairly fitting break before I return to the more serious stories indeed. Back to reading now.
