辻堂さんの純愛ロード – Impressions

When I realized the next on my list was this game I actually paused and questioned for a second why exactly did I pick this up. In the end it was a suitable game to play after dealing with a damsel in distress though. Or rather, maybe it was (surprisingly) the perfect story for it? What’s with this strangely fitting choice I made?

My bad impression primarily came from Majikoi which, while wasn’t particularly bad, didn’t quite meet up to the expectations I had of it. Since after the common route it frankly felt like the story suddenly devolved into a third rate romance to wrap things up, well seeing as it’s popular in its own way perhaps it’s just me who feels that way.

Renna (and her merry friends)

Maki

Moving on, this story follows the similar fare with wacky settings, a very large cast of characters and tough heroines. From what I’ve played so far, it’s pretty enjoyable but I’m somewhat lost on the direction. At the beginning it just felt like it had early route splits with the main romance-wise attention being focused on Tsujidou, but then at the end of common(?) route they set things up for a harem, which leaves me pondering whether or not that actually was the common route and it was simply a coincidence that I picked choices for Tsujidou. If that’s the case then my heart is going to hurt when I go to other routes.

Tsujidou

The same person…probably?

Tsujidou

…Tsujidou

Ah well that’s life.

The story follows the protagonist, Hiroshi as he tames all of the top deliquents with his geniality. I was actually under the initial impression that Hiroshi was a generic gentle protagonist but he actually knew where to step up at, which gave him some plus points in my book. He reaches out to Tsujidou whom, contrary to her appearances (and reputation) is pretty shy. He tames Maki with food and then proceeds to save the life of Renna when she nearly drowned (of course with CPR).

When thinking of it, by the end of the common route he actually took the first kisses of all three of them, the power of a kind and caring protagonist is fearsome.

Back to healing my mind before returning to serious business stories. Hopefully the story doesn’t take a strange turn but I heard there’s basically not much drama to speak of in the story so that’s a good sign.
