月に寄りそう乙女の作法 – Thoughts

L-U-N-A L-U-N-A

Luna made the game for me therefore this post will now consist of 50% Luna and 50% bantering about cross-dressing protagonist genre stories in general.

That was one of the better done games with the protagonist cross-dressing. I liked how they took their time to set things up before diving into the world of cross-dressing unlike most games which basically throw you in the setting just seconds after starting.

Though I have to admit, the setup to things was somewhat misleading.

Our protagonist Yuusei was born in a rich family as an illegitimate child. Despite being in a rich family, due to his standing he and his mother is forced to live in the attic, receiving the sarcastic nickname of the “Prince of the attic” as a result. Alas it did not end there, since Yuusei was still technically someone connected by blood to a prestigious family, he still received harsh home schooling with large expectations placed on him.

All of this would one day come to an end when his elder brother, the heir to the family discovers him outside the mansion and takes interest in him— as a potentially useful pawn of course.

His elder brother takes him away from the family and due to some “coincidence”, he met a famous fashion designer Stanley who is also his elder brother’s good friend and business partner. Interacting him caused Yuusei’s life to change, with a new goal in mind. Yes, that’s right, this is a story about fashion design!

Sorry, I have to say that part kinda threw me off. I really wasn’t expecting this story to build up around fashion designing. In part because it’s the first time I’ve seen something like this but fashion design doesn’t really come off as an exactly appealing subject to revolve a story around (for me anyway).

In any case the reborn Yuusei began chasing his dream of becoming a professional fashion designer. Unfortunately not long after beginning, his elder brother declared that he was talentless and shut him off.

END

Time passes, Yuusei spent 3 years living with his cute little sister who has a brother complex for Yuusei, in fact at this point we may as well say that all of the characters have a Yuusei complex. This lasted until one day, Yuusei’s object of admiration Stanley decided to open up a fashion design school. However there was a catch, it’s an all girls school and his elder brother will also take part in managing it.

Then Yuusei’s younger sister proposed a wonderful idea: why not take advantage of Yuusei’s feminine face and cross-dress to attend the school? Following that, she gave Yuusei some of her clothes and forced him to wear female underwear in addition to that.

Note: Not a heroine, our protagonist.

Note: I repeat, our protagonist.

With one problem more or less solved, the next is how he would be able deceive the eyes of his elder brother. His younger sister proposed to change his name and attend the school as an attendant in the class for rich people who donated large sums of money to the school. Luckily she knows someone who is looking for a maid for the school (from online gaming).

Yuusei (now renamed to Asahi) cross-dressed and arrived at the mansion to apply for the position. However upon entering the door he was immediately accepted because the master of the house, Luna, was tired of searching for a maid that meets her expectations.

Asahi still technically took some tests from the head maid but besides that he was accepted easily enough and soon after became one of Luna’s favorite maids.

Later some of Luna’s good friends moved in because they are going to attend the school as well, one of which Asahi recognizes as she is someone he knew during his childhood.

Time passes and school begins, will Asahi successfully pursue her his dreams?! Will Luna become more cute than she already is?! Will Asahi be able to keep his gender a secret for the full 3 years?!

… Well the answers to most of the questions is pretty obvious. For time being Luna is cute and that’s the only thing which matters.

Now, reading this has bought up some few points which have been bothering me for a while.

First of all I don’t quite understand why do so many stories of this genre persist on making the all girls school something that rich girls attend. This was made even worse when it was a fashion design school with a special class for the rich girls, it feels like even with a more normal school setting, they had to force the rich setting in.

That’s simply a minor plot detail however so it’s fine. Another point I’ve come to realize about the genre is that cross-dressing is a fairly well done genre in a sense. It does a good job at melding together various genres. On one end the story practically becomes full out yuri until the reveal that Asahi is actually Yuusei. So fans of yuri have something to cheer about while the people with a resistance to it can always just remember that Asahi is (technically) a guy so it’s fair play. Then for the trap lovers they can turn and look at the story in another way and realize that our protagonist can be recognized as a trap!

When looking at it that way, the genre really does cover a lot of bases.

Moving on, about the story itself.

The story itself had a nice flow of comedic antics for most of the story making it very enjoyable to read. However of course, not all is fun and play with Yuusei’s elder brother playing the role of antagonist, going as far as plagiarizing the work they have been doing for several months on and after that try to separate Yuusei from Luna by making him go abroad.

Needless to say they did in the end force Yuusei’s elder brother to admit Yuusei’s talent and allow him to continue staying in Japan. In addition with Stanley’s whim, the school was scheduled to become co-ed next year, allowing Yuusei to attend the school normally.

The fact that they basically wrote him off as a brother complex with a twisted expression of love by the end was fairly questionable but I don’t think there was much of a better way to get around it. Well in the end if you set aside the comedy, I don’t think story-wise it was really that spectacular. Hence what really made the story for me was Luna.

Other routes you say? What are you talking about, the only heroine, only route and OTP of the story is clearly Luna. That said, there’s no incest route. WHY NAVEL, WHY.

Art-wise it’s the usual fare from Navel, I really don’t like Nishimata’s art and the contrast between the two artists just makes it even worse to look at. Not sure if it was a coincidence or personal bias from me but clearly all of the best girls are the ones not drawn by Nishimata. Too bad though, when I first saw the art I actually thought for a minute “oh hey, there’s no longer a serious case of sameface?” but then I found out there were two artists.

A yandere is fine too.

All in all it was an above average VN for me, though it’s honestly mainly just because I loved Luna’s character, I hope Navel will do more VNs with less Nishimata in it, or better yet no Nishimata at all.

Now Luna picture dump just because, and there will be no posts until November releases are out as I’m done for the month.

Fandisk where?
