乙女理論とその周辺 -Ecole de Paris- – Thoughts

This is how you make a FD dammit, this is how.

One unfortunate truth about most FDs is that they’re a glorified hscene append most of the time. The added stories are often not particularly interesting and the largest appeal tends to be that a few popular sub characters get a route for themselves.

It’s pretty much just milking the game for some more money really.

That said, to be fair it may be questionable whether or not you can call this a FD instead of something more along the lines of a spin off story. Either way, Otome Riron follows the bad end in Tsuriotsu with Yuusei ending up with Risona in Paris.

This alone would make you think it’s just Risona route with all of the characters… particularly Luna… gone from the story. Excluding Luna is something that deserves a thousand deaths but the spin off was really well done so it’s forgiven. There’s that and that glorious entrance Luna had towards the end of Risona route which also made up for things.

The story, of course revolves around Risona but also expands the world, the entire family drama which was mostly ignored in the original comes back in play and gets covered in depth, eventually leading to quite a satisfactory conclusion of things.

Meanwhile on the actual FD side of things, the after story of… Luna in particular as no one else can be a heroine in my heart, they also wrapped up some family circumstances in both families. Not as elaborately as Risona’s route but the story mostly assumes you’ve already read Otome Riron so there’s no real need to go through it another time. Well of course, I would be all for it seeing as that means even more Luna.

The fact that all 3 siblings managed to get along fine in both cases itself is pleasant enough as the contrast is pretty big when you compare it to the start of the story.

In any case regardless of the spin off or the after story, they went along and covered the chunk of the story which, to be honest, really should’ve been covered already in the main game. But in a sense, the main game itself also ended on a fine note, pushing in family drama at that point might have made it even better but at the same time… I’m not sure how many hours more it would take to read.

If I had to name a fault then it would be that I don’t particularly like how they handled the solution to some of the problems. For an example, in Risona route they solved problems for most of the characters reasonably well if not flat out awesome as I never expected some of the twists and turns it took to reach that conclusion. But then there’s characters like their mother which… apparently was simply impressed by the fashion show so much that she had no problems whatsoever and took a 180 degree turn in attitude.

To be honest though, considering how well the rest of the things were setup, I could excuse that as simply being a fine detail that didn’t manage to get properly developed by the end but…

Then there’s Luna’s after story. There’s references to the events in Otome Riron here and there but for the most part it’s detached from it for obvious reasons. The 3 siblings still manage to get onto good terms which was pleasant to see but honestly speaking, the closure for Luna’s family issues was just so… anticlimatic.

In a similar way as before, they were simply impressed by Luna’s appearance and suddenly all is forgiven, happily ever after. The parents received probably no more than a dozen lines and the story received its finish.

Overall, while I do wish they made some problems a little harder to solve, it was a very satisfactory spin off/FD. Hopefully the FD for Gakhthun will be equally if not even more enjoyable.

Next up I’ll be reading something from my backlog, I also have to get over the fact that I’ll probably never see Luna again other than if I reread the story ;_; the tragedy of liking a character in an eroge.
