First of all I should probably take partial blame for it as I can’t muster any motivation to play a story of this genre at the moment. Maybe I should run off to play a RPG but at the same time going into a long, long game after getting out of BSZ is a little painful to do.
But at the same time I don’t think it’ll change the part that while the story had a strong start with the swimming competition… it sort of fell apart after that.
The gags were still fine, it’s just that the story sort of lost any direction it had and didn’t really progress much more than fleshing out some of the heroines. However the common route was still passable, what was really bad happened once I hit the routes, in this case Hisui’s route.
In the routes they sort of just… suddenly stuffed drama in our faces without anything leading to it and then resolved it as quickly as it was introduced. In other words, a typical case of a light hearted comedy getting buried under drama during individual routes. I really don’t know what is it with writers and feeling that there must be sudden dramatic developments at times.
Well okay, drama is necessary if you want some sort of spice to the story but… in cases like these, the drama feels like it came out of nowhere, is out of place for the story and doesn’t amount to anything of significance in the end. You could probably say it’s a convenient tool for the author to break the status quo and achieve an ending but when you consider the overall atmosphere of the story, it also doesn’t feel like the right way to do it with.
When drama is well executed there’s no reason to complain but this is clearly not one of those cases. Having completed one route, I have no more motivation to bother with other routes. I spent most of the story being somewhat distracted because of the aforementioned reason anyway.
Next up is… nothing.
Burned out from these types of stories it seems so I’ll be taking a break, October releases are coming out but unfortunately it’s a pretty empty month. I’ll have a new addition to the Kyonyuu Fantasy series but I have no idea when that will show up and even when it does, it will probably only take me a day or two to read, unfortunately.
After that there’s the new Whirlpool and Pulltop games but as they fall under the same category as this, I’m somewhat looking forward to them but at the same time I really don’t have much motivation to read them yet either. Which is why, a break. Might really go on and play a RPG or something to get back into the mood.
